STANDARD HOURS: Flexibility in schedule is required for day, nightor weekend classes as needed.

SALARY: $45.00 per class hour contracted

POSITION SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible forplanning, preparing, and delivering instruction and assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Utilize engaging instructional strategies andmethodologies which foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate student records andcommunication.
  • Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals. Thisincludes being accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time.
  • Provide educational leadership and work effectively withfaculty, administration, and campus support staff.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required byother agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction,assessment, and delivery.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities will be discussed as needs arise.
Additional Duties andResponsibilities:
  • Course emphasis will be on General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Principles of Sustainability, College Chemistry,Organic Chemistry
  • Coordinate with chemistry instructors at local high schools on chemistry transcribed credit courses to ensuremaintenance of NWTC standards for quality and rigor
  • Collaborate with other Chemistry team members and Academic Coaching & Tutoringstaff and utilize pertinent data to ensure consistent quality instruction and assessment
  • Actively instructs and manages a chemistryclassroom and laboratory environment
  • Science outreach and recruitment activities as requested by department/division/college (e.g.high school career fairs and science class visits, NEW SOI activity facilitation, Explore Days activities for district high schools, ACPSactivities for district high schools, Chamber of Commerce education fairs/events, campus open houses, Tech Challenge, MindTrekkers, FindYour Inspiration events, high school health class visits, Future Eagles Fun Day, etc.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND WORKEXPERIENCE

Master's degree and a combination of 18 graduate/undergraduate credits in Chemistry or related subfield they areteaching. Transcripts must identify at least 9 graduate/undergraduate credits in Chemistry and another 9 graduate/undergraduate credits inthe related discipline/subfield.

  • Examples of qualifying subfields could include, but are not limited to:
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Pharmacology
  • Science Education
  • Ability to work in a teamenvironment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Canvas (and/or other Learning Management Systems)knowledge beneficial.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable under thedistrict's standard insurance policy terms.
  • Enforcement of Science Lab Safety/OSHA expectations, including but limited to hazardouswaste handling, spill clean-up, lifting techniques, bloodborne pathogen annual training, and expectation to enforce all lab safety rulesestablished by NWTC.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous teaching experience with adult learners ispreferred
