Job Description

The Healthy Start Health Educator/ Data Analyst play a crucial role in improving public health outcomes by empowering individuals and communities with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives. They also play a crucial role in helping organizations understand their data and use it to drive strategic decisions. By providing insights derived from data, they contribute to improved business processes and increase efficiency. Their work contributes to the promotion of healthy behaviors, and the enhancement of the overall quality of life within communities. The goals of Healthy Start program are to: 1) Continue reducing infant mortality rates in the United States, and 2) Decrease disparities in infant mortality and poor perinatal health outcomes in areas where those rates are high. They have the ability to establish a trusting and respectful relationship with families and maintain boundaries while providing supportive services.

Responsibilities

Under the professional supervision of the Supervisor, the Health Educator/ Data Analyst will:

  • Conduct community needs assessments to identify health education needs.
  • Analyze data to understand community health trends and risk factors
  • Develop health education programs and materials tailored to the community's needs.
  • Implement programs through workshops, seminars, and other outreach activities.
  • Coordinate with local organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to deliver programs.
  • Conducts group and individual sessions on reproductive health topics.
  • Provides education and information on reproductive health topics to community professionals
  • Conducts community surveys and collaborates with other health specialists and civic groups to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services with a focus on Heath Education.
  • Develops and maintains cooperation between public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies.
  • Promotes health discussions at various sites, schools, industry, and other community agencies
  • Attends regularly scheduled Committee Meetings and other related meetings externally.
  • Attends and participates in training/informational sessions that are appropriate for Health Educators.
  • Maintains a calendar of events of educational and outreach activities.
  • Assists in intakes and may carry a case list of families if needed to support program capacity

Qualifications

  • Education: An Associate’s degree in human services, social work or closely related field; or graduation from a senior high school or equivalent with two years of previous experience at a human services or health services agency.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development, parent-child relationship, maternal-infant health, psycho-social dynamics, recognizes indicators of child abuse and neglect, and community resources. Ability to follow and implement policies and procedures
  • Prior experience: Must have several years of experience in working with/ or providing services to children and families.
  • Good communication skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Good oral and written skills: Ability to write simple correspondence and narratives of activities. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers/ participants, and other employees of the organization. Ability to interpret and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Foreign Language Ability: (Required)
  • Ability to converse with participants in a language other than English (French, Spanish)
  • Personal Traits: Highly motivated professional individual representative of the target community (culturally/ethnically, age) with a sincere interest in working in a maternal/child and family health focused environment.
  • Maturity and experienced in successfully working with expecting parents and children (newborn-2 years of age) and their families; and home visiting experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with and ability to utilize computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite. Typing skills and ability to learn data entry system.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Must be willing to get CLC certification.
