The Staff Accountant will support the daily operations of the accounting department by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with the monthly closing process. This role focuses on the execution of core accounting functions to ensure data integrity and provide the foundation for the company’s financial reporting.
Accounting Operations
Execute day-to-day accounting functions, including processing accounts payable, issuing accounts receivable invoices, and performing general ledger data entry.
Ensure the accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions within the company’s accounting system.
Maintain organized financial files and ensure proper supporting documentation is attached to all transactions.
Perform monthly reconciliations of bank statements, credit cards, and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy.
Financial Reporting & Support
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements by gathering data and preparing journal entries.
Compile financial data and schedules to help identify trends, variances, and operational performance metrics.
Prepare basic financial reports and spreadsheets as requested by the Controller or leadership team.
Ensure all work is performed in alignment with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Financial Maintenance
Track daily cash activity and update cash flow schedules to maintain visibility into the organization’s position.
Adhere to internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and maintain financial discipline.
Prepare documentation and workpapers for external accounting firms, tax professionals, or auditors during year-end reviews.
Assist with inventory tracking and the reconciliation of operational costs.
Administrative Financial Support
Support the budgeting and forecasting process by performing data entry and research.
Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation logs.
Provide analytical support for special projects related to business growth or cost-saving initiatives.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 3+ years of accounting experience (entry-level candidates with strong internship experience may be considered).
Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables).
Industry Knowledge: Experience in food manufacturing, food distribution, or inventory-based businesses is a significant plus.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in data entry and a commitment to maintaining clean financial records.
Communication: Strong organizational and communication skills to work effectively within a small business environment.
